Hampton Bays Community Garden and Greenhouse Project
****PLEASE CONTACT JOAN or JOHN at the emails below if you are interested in renting a garden bed for the 2021 season. The sooner the better, before they fill up! Price of a garden bed is $40.
Yes, that's right. The children and youth of the Hampton Bays School District have a place to go to during and after school to FEEL the earth and to GROW and HARVEST food. The students are experiencing how food is INTEGRAL to SUSTAINING our beautiful planet.
Our garden and greenhouse provide not only students in our schools an opportunity to learn, but also the Hampton Bays Community is encouraged to participate and contribute to this learning space in a variety of ways from construction to purchasing vegetable beds and maintaining them. Cornell Cooperative Extension in Riverhead partnered with us several years ago to help in the creation of this project. They were the recipient of a large Department of Health grant to support health and wellness initiatives in Southampton, Riverhead, and Brookhaven. So, with their help we have accomplished our goal to have a community garden and greenhouse, that benefit our community, facilities, students, and faculty.
We want to make it last!- Growing a successful outdoor classroom doesn't happen all at once. And it doesn't last without SUSTAINED EFFORT.
